Baltimore, MD – A gritty sentence was meted out today as Shannon Banks, 42, of Cambridge, Maryland, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Ellen L. Hollander to seven years in prison followed by three years of supervised release for his role as a felon in possession of three firearms and ammunition, as well as for possession with the intent to distribute cocaine.
The judge also ordered Banks to forfeit a plethora of assets including three guns, $389,189 in cash, nine televisions, jewelry, a Lincoln passenger car, an International “party bus,” $5,280 from a bank account, and his residence on Moose Lodge Road. All were deemed proceeds of his drug trafficking activities.
United States Attorney for the District of Maryland Rod J. Rosenstein announced the sentence, joined by Assistant Special Agent in Charge Gary Tuggle of the DEA, FBI’s Stephen E. Vogt, ICE HSI’s William Winter, Dorchester County Sheriff James W. Phillips, Jr., and Maryland State Police Superintendent William M. Pallozzi.
According to Banks’ plea agreement, law enforcement executed a search warrant at his home on April 11, 2014. They seized 233.7 grams of cocaine, $216,169 in cash, a loaded .45 caliber handgun with an obliterated serial number, a 12 gauge shotgun, and a hydraulic kilogram press. Another search on April 15, 2014, at a storage unit yielded $173,020, a loaded .22 caliber handgun, and another hydraulic kilogram press. Banks confessed that the cash was drug trafficking proceeds.
Rod J. Rosenstein commended the DEA, FBI, HSI-Baltimore, Dorchester County Narcotics Task Force, and other agencies for their investigative efforts. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Seema Mittal and Evan T. Shea were thanked for their prosecution of this Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force case.
