A convicted felon from Tennessee has been charged with a violent assault on another inmate at the maximum-security USP Canaan in Pennsylvania. Frederico Brown, 49, allegedly attacked a fellow prisoner on January 9, 2026, leaving the victim with serious bodily injuries.
According to the indictment, the assault occurred at the United States Penitentiary Canaan, a federal prison in the Middle District of Pennsylvania. The FBI and the Federal Bureau of Prisons investigated the case.
Assistant US Attorney Sarah R. Lloyd is prosecuting the case, which carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison. Brown’s guilt has not been proven in court and he is presumed innocent until found guilty.
The indictment is a rare example of federal authorities taking action against violent crime within the prison system.
