Canadian Woman Caught with 78 Kilograms of Cocaine in Houston
A 51-year-old woman from Canada has been sentenced to 84 months in federal prison for her role in a massive cocaine trafficking operation.
Elizabeth K. Fisher, a resident of Calgary, Canada, was arrested in May 2019 after law enforcement discovered 78 kilograms of cocaine in her vehicle during a traffic stop in Houston.
Fisher, who had been living in Houston for several weeks, had been receiving shipments of cocaine to test and store before delivering it to someone who would transport it back to Canada.
According to court documents, Fisher had flown into the United States in April 2019 and had rented a townhouse in Houston. She returned to Calgary for a short time before coming back to Houston on May 12, 2019.
It was on May 17, 2019, that law enforcement executed a traffic stop on Fisher after she was seen talking on her phone as she exited a Home Depot parking lot in her vehicle. During the stop, authorities found four duffle bags containing a total of 78 kilograms of cocaine in the back seat.
Fisher pleaded guilty to conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute cocaine on January 11, 2020. Today, U.S. District Judge Kenneth Hoyt ordered her to serve an 84-month-term of imprisonment to be immediately followed by five years of supervised release.
The investigation into Fisher’s activities was conducted by the Drug Enforcement Administration in Houston and Vancouver, Canada, as well as Homeland Security Investigations, along with law enforcement in Calgary. Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert Stabe prosecuted the case.
Fisher has been in custody pending transfer to a U.S. Bureau of Prisons facility to be determined in the near future.
