Oxycodone Ring Leader Gets 7 Years in Prison
A Front Royal woman was sentenced to seven years in prison for being the ringleader of a decade-long oxycodone distribution network.
Candie Marie Calix, 40, was the gatekeeper to a doctor in Arlington who prescribed her nearly 40,000 high-dosage oxycodone pills and over 9,000 oxycodone 15-mg pills between 2012 and 2022. The doctor, referred to as Doctor-1, also prescribed similar quantities to Calix’s relatives, including her mother, grandparents, great-grandmother, brother, and husband.
Calix recruited at least 12 individuals to be ‘patients’ of Doctor-1, even though she knew them to be addicted to opiates already. She used coded language to refer to the pills, calling them ‘tickets,’ ‘blueberries,’ or ‘muffins.’ The co-conspirators sold oxycodone 30-mg pills at a cost of $25 per pill, generating at least $5,000 per month in profits.
Calix agreed to a money judgment of more than half a million dollars representing the proceeds of the conspiracy. U.S. Attorney Jessica D. Aber and FBI Special Agent Wayne A. Jacobs announced the sentencing by Senior U.S. District Judge Anthony J. Trenga.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Katherine E. Rumbaugh prosecuted the case, which was investigated as part of the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF). The OCDETF program aims to identify, disrupt, and dismantle major drug trafficking organizations.
