ORLANDO, Florida – A disturbing case of child exploitation has come to a close with a harsh sentence. Carl Vecchione, a 62-year-old Oviedo resident, has been sentenced to five years and nine months in federal prison for receiving and possessing child sexual abuse material (CSAM).
The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Carlos E. Mendoza on August 12, 2024, after Vecchione pleaded guilty to the charges. This sentence is a result of a thorough investigation by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) into Vecchione’s activities.
According to the plea agreement, on June 9, 2022, HSI agents executed a search warrant at Vecchione’s home after determining that the residence’s IP address was sharing CSAM online. During the search, agents located more than 900 images and videos of CSAM on Vecchione’s laptop.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Stephanie A. McNeff, who worked tirelessly to bring Vecchione to justice. This case is a stark reminder of the importance of ongoing efforts to combat the epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
Vecchione’s sentence is a fitting punishment for his heinous crimes, and it serves as a warning to others who would engage in similar behavior. The authorities will continue to work tirelessly to identify and prosecute individuals who engage in this type of activity.
This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. The project marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who sexually exploit children, and to identify and rescue victims.
Vecchione’s case is a grim reminder of the reality of child sexual abuse and the importance of continued efforts to prevent and prosecute these crimes. The community must remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
