Carlos Arturo Rodezno-Quintanilla, Transportation of Minor for Sex, Virginia 2018

A Honduran man who entered the United States illegally has pleaded guilty to transporting a minor for sexual purposes in Norfolk, Virginia.

Carlos Arturo Rodezno-Quintanilla, 52, admitted to sexually abusing the minor, Jane Doe, since she was 4 years old. In June, he brought the now 13-year-old girl from Florida to Norfolk, where he continued the abuse.

The girl contacted the Norfolk Police Department after arriving in Norfolk, and Rodezno-Quintanilla was found to have absconded from supervision while waiting further court proceedings.

Rodezno-Quintanilla pleaded guilty to one count of transportation of a person for criminal sexual purposes and faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison when sentenced on March 26, 2019. A federal district court judge will determine the sentence after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.

This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. Led by U.S. Attorney’s Offices and the Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section, the project aims to better locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.

G. Zachary Terwilliger, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, commended the efforts of local and state partners in bringing the case to justice. “Our office is committed to protecting the most vulnerable victims of our society,” he said.

Rodezno-Quintanilla’s case is a stark reminder of the need to protect vulnerable children from predators. The community can rest assured that the U.S. Attorney’s Office will continue to work tirelessly to bring perpetrators to justice.
