Child Pornography Ring Cracked: Ayer Man Sentenced to 25 Years

BOSTON – In a shocking case of child exploitation, 45-year-old Thomas A. Donahue, an Ayer man, has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for producing, distributing, and possessing child pornography.

On October 2012, Donahue pleaded guilty to the charges in U.S. District Court. The lengthy investigation, which began in March 2010, uncovered a staggering amount of child pornography material, including videos and images depicting a minor male.

The investigation also revealed that Donahue produced, distributed, and possessed the illicit material between March 2010 and February 2011. A search warrant executed at his apartment in February 2011 uncovered a laptop computer, external hard drive, and other computer-related media, which were later analyzed by authorities.

Donahue’s arrest and subsequent extradition from Belize, where he fled in March 2011, marked a significant breakthrough in the case. He was taken into custody in April 2011 and brought back to the United States to face charges.

The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Homeland Security Investigations, and the Bureau of Diplomatic Security Regional Security Office in Belize, with assistance from the Special Branch of the Belize Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Cory S. Flashner of the Worcester Branch Office prosecuted the case.

Donahue’s sentence of 25 years in prison, followed by 10 years of supervised release, serves as a stark reminder of the severity of child pornography crimes. The Grimy Times will continue to follow this case and provide updates as more information becomes available.
