Defendants Behind Bars for Distributing Deadly Ketamine Cocktail
NEW ORLEANS – U.S. Attorney Peter G. Strasser announced the guilty plea of Carlos Mario Cantu-Cox, age 48, and his husband Christopher Cantu-Cox, age 37, of Pasadena, Texas, for distributing ketamine that resulted in the death of an 18-year-old Slidell, Louisiana teenager.
The Cantu-Coxes were large-scale methamphetamine suppliers to the Houston and New Orleans area, with one of their customers being the deceased teenager. During one of the teenager’s visits to the Cantu-Coxes‘ home, he was arrested for unlawful possession of a firearm and the couple posted his $6000 bond.
After the teenager failed to appear in court, the Cantu-Coxes told their New Orleans customers that they wanted him so they could transport him back to Texas and recover their bond. Williams Harrison Farris, a New Orleans-based methamphetamine dealer and user, learned of the couple’s intentions and enlisted the help of Kacie Doucet and Leilani Aspuria to pick up the teenager in Slidell.
Doucet and Aspuria were aware that the Cantu-Coxes intended to use the teenager for their own gain, and they gave him a cocktail of powerful drugs, which contained ketamine, to render him incapacitated. The teenager was later found dead in the Sims Bayou in the Houston area.
The Cantu-Coxes face up to 20 years in prison and will be sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Wendy B. Vitter on May 5, 2020. Farris, Doucet, and Aspuria have all pleaded guilty to the same charge, with Aspuria being sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment, Farris set to be sentenced on March 18, 2020, and Doucet on April 8, 2020.
The U.S. Attorney praised the work of the United States Postal Inspection Service, Louisiana State Police, Houston Police Department, and the Drug Enforcement Administration in bringing the Cantu-Coxes and their accomplices to justice.
