BREAKING: A Rice County woman has been convicted of a brazen cattle fraud scheme that left a trail of deceit and financial ruin in its wake.
Carrie L. Frederick, 37, of Sterling, Kansas, pleaded guilty to three counts of wire fraud in connection with the scheme, which involved embezzling money from her former employer, Sellers Farms, Inc., a livestock feeding operation in Lyons, Kansas.
According to court documents, Frederick admitted to causing money to be sent from Sellers Farms’ accounts to Golden Belt Feeders, Inc., of St. John, Kansas, to pay debts she owed from trading cattle when she worked for Golden Belt.
The scheme involved three transactions that totaled more than $211,000, a staggering amount that is sure to send shockwaves through the rural community.
Frederick faces a maximum penalty of 30 years in federal prison and a fine of up to $1 million on each count. Sentencing is set for September 11.
U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom commended the FBI and Assistant U.S. Attorney Lanny Welch for their tireless efforts in bringing Frederick to justice.
The case is a stark reminder that no one is above the law, and those who engage in white-collar crimes will be held accountable for their actions.
As the Grimy Times continues to investigate this developing story, we urge anyone with information to come forward and help bring closure to the victims of Frederick’s scheme.
