Cascade Man Sentenced to Prison for Rolling Back Odometers
A 69-year-old Cascade man has been sentenced to federal prison for rolling back the odometers on 47 used cars, scamming unsuspecting buyers out of thousands of dollars.
Randolph Forrest, 69, of Cascade, Iowa, received the prison term after a guilty plea to one count of wire fraud in January 2023. Forrest’s scheme, which spanned nearly a decade, involved tampering with the odometers of at least 47 cars to sell them for more money.
According to information from the sentencing, Forrest conspired with others to roll back the odometers of used cars between June 2012 and July 2021. The group would then sell the cars to unsuspecting buyers at higher sales prices than the buyers would have paid had the true mileage been disclosed.
Forrest was sentenced in Cedar Rapids by United States District Court Chief Judge C.J. Williams. He was ordered to serve six months’ imprisonment, six months’ home confinement, and make $140,178.55 in restitution to 47 victims of his offense. Forrest must also serve a three-year term of supervised release after his prison term.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Kyndra Lundquist and investigated by the United States Department of Transportation, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the Iowa Department of Transportation, and the United States Postal Inspection Service.
Forrest was released on bond previously set and is to surrender to the United States Marshal on May 6, 2024. The case file number is 22-CR-1016.
