A Many resident was sentenced to 15 years in prison for possessing cocaine base with intent to distribute. Cassius L. Medlock, 32, was sentenced to 188 months in prison by U.S. District Judge Elizabeth E. Foote.
MEDLOCK WAS STOPPED ON AUGUST 14, 2014, FOR SPEEDING, AND AFTER SEARCHING THE VEHICLE, OFFICERS OBSERVED MORE THAN 193 GRAMS OF COCAINE BASE AND MARIJUANA IN THE VEHICLE HE WAS DRIVING.
The defendant was arrested as part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) Operation. The DEA and the Sabine Parish Sheriff’s Office investigated the case. The OCDETF program is a joint federal, state and local cooperative approach to combat drug trafficking and is the nation’s primary tool for disrupting and dismantling major drug trafficking organizations, targeting national and regional level drug trafficking organizations, and coordinating the necessary law enforcement entities and resources to disrupt or dismantle the targeted criminal organization and seize their assets.
Medlock was also sentenced to four years of supervised release. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Seth D. Reeg.
The operation aimed to target national and regional level drug trafficking organizations. The OCDETF program is a joint federal, state and local approach to combating drug trafficking. The program targets major drug trafficking organizations and coordinates the necessary law enforcement entities and resources to disrupt or dismantle the targeted criminal organization.
Medlock’s sentence reflects the severity of the crime and the need to hold individuals accountable for their actions. The case is a reminder of the importance of law enforcement efforts in combating drug trafficking and keeping our communities safe.
