Phillip D. Goetz, a 45-year-old Grand Island man, faces the music for his involvement in methamphetamine trafficking.
Phillip D. Goetz was sentenced to 70 months’ imprisonment for possessing with intent to distribute methamphetamine. The sentence was handed down by Chief United States District Judge Robert F. Rossiter, Jr. in federal court in Omaha, Nebraska. The severe punishment serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of engaging in illicit activities.
According to the investigation, on May 12, 2021, Omaha Police received a tip from a confidential source that Goetz was going to meet co-defendant Markisha Hill to purchase methamphetamine near 72nd and Grover Streets in Omaha. Detectives conducted surveillance and observed Goetz approach and enter a vehicle driven by Hill.
Following a high-speed chase, officers stopped the vehicle on I-80 near the 60th Street exit in Omaha. During the stop, law enforcement observed Goetz attempting to conceal something in his jacket. After Markisha Hill, the driver, denied consent to search the SUV, officers deployed a trained drug sniffing dog, which alerted on the vehicle. A search of the SUV revealed one pound of methamphetamine in the center console.
The seized methamphetamine is a significant amount, highlighting the severity of Goetz’s crime. Possessing with intent to distribute a large quantity of a controlled substance is a serious offense that carries substantial penalties.
Co-defendant Markisha Hill has pleaded guilty to possessing with intent to distribute methamphetamine and will be sentenced on December 9, 2022. The guilty plea and pending sentence serve as a testament to the thorough investigation and effective prosecution of the case.
This case was a collaborative effort between law enforcement agencies, demonstrating the importance of interagency cooperation in combating drug trafficking and related crimes.
Phillip D. Goetz, 45, of Grand Island, Nebraska, will begin a three-year term of supervised release after serving his prison sentence. The lengthy term of supervised release underscores the need for continued monitoring and rehabilitation of individuals convicted of serious crimes.
