Cedar Rapids Dealer Sentenced to Over 5 Years for Meth, Gun Possession

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA – Donald Devere White III, a 48-year-old resident of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, faced the federal justice system after being sentenced to over five years in prison for methamphetamine possession and gun possession. The sentence was handed down on November 19, 2021.

White pleaded guilty to one count of possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance on August 2, 2021. According to court records, the offense occurred on October 22, 2018, when Cedar Rapids Police Department officers stopped White’s truck during a traffic stop. During the search, authorities recovered close to 35 grams of methamphetamine and a revolver.

In his plea agreement, White confessed that he intended to distribute part or all of the methamphetamine to another individual. United States District Court Judge C.J. Williams presided over White’s sentencing in Cedar Rapids, where he was sentenced to 63 months’ imprisonment. Following his release from prison, White must serve a five-year term of supervised release. Parole is not available in the federal system.

White is currently being held in the custody of the United States Marshal until transportation to a federal prison can be arranged. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Dillan Edwards and investigated by the Cedar Rapids Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.
