Crime news from Iowa has a new chapter as Donald Devere White III, the Cedar Rapids meth kingpin, was sentenced on November 19, 2021, to more than five years in federal prison. The 48-year-old was caught with close to 35 grams of methamphetamine and a revolver during a traffic stop by the Cedar Rapids Police Department on October 22, 2018.
White, who pleaded guilty on August 2, 2021, to possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance, faced a harsh judgment from United States District Court Judge C.J. Williams. Sentenced to 63 months’ imprisonment, White will also serve a five-year term of supervised release following his prison term. The federal system does not offer parole.
White is currently in the custody of the United States Marshal’s Service until he can be transported to a federal correctional facility. Assistant United States Attorney Dillan Edwards prosecuted the case, with support from both the Cedar Rapids Police Department and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.
