Steve Young, the grim reaper of the Grimy Times, brings you the dirt from Iowa’s federal courts. A notorious figure in Cedar Rapids, Michael Hicks, 25, has copped to the crime of carrying a stolen firearm. Hicks was nabbed with a stolen handgun during a Benton County traffic stop. This man was an unlawful drug user, high on marijuana, when he possessed the weapon.

Today, Hicks stood before the federal court in Cedar Rapids and admitted his guilt. The judge has yet to sentence this lawbreaker, but if Hicks is found guilty as charged, he could face up to ten years behind bars. Add a $250,000 fine, $100 in special assessments, and three years of supervised release on top of that.
