Cedar Rapids Man Sentenced to 30 Years for Producing Child Pornography

A Cedar Rapids man has been sentenced to 30 years in federal prison for producing and distributing child pornography. Nathan Krejci, 41, received the harsh sentence after a guilty plea to charges of sexual exploitation of a child and distribution of child pornography.

According to court documents, Krejci engaged in sexually explicit conduct with a 6- to 9-year-old female child between September 2016 and September 2019. He produced a video of the abuse and distributed still shots of the video to an undercover officer online. Krejci also distributed the images to less than 12 people on the internet.

The court found that Krejci drugged the victim prior to the abuse, rendering the victim unconscious during the abuse. Krejci also admitted to physically and sexually abusing a 7- to 9-year-old boy approximately 13 years ago, holding a gun to the child’s head when the child refused to drink alcohol.

Krejci has a history of criminal behavior, including an OWI conviction in which he hit two pedestrians and left the scene. Investigators searched his electronic devices and located between 300 and 600 images of child pornography.

Krejci was sentenced in Cedar Rapids by United States District Court Judge C.J. Williams. He was ordered to pay a $300 special assessment and serve a 5-year term of supervised release after his prison term. There is no parole in the federal system.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Ashley Corkery and investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The FBI’s Omaha Special Agent in Charge Eugene Kowel praised the dedication of law enforcement partners in bringing Krejci to justice.

As part of the sentencing, Krejci’s case was brought under Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. The project marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who sexually exploit children, and to identify and rescue victims.
