Lincoln Cop’s Child Porn Past Catches Up

A former Lincoln correctional officer has been sentenced to five years and three months in prison for distributing child pornography.

Trevor Hansen, 30, of Lincoln, was handed down the sentence by United States District Judge John M. Gerrard in Lincoln.

Hansen, a former employee of the Lincoln Correctional Center, was also ordered to pay $9,000 in restitution as part of his sentence.

The case began when Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) in Nebraska received a cyber tip indicating that a Kik user, later identified as Hansen, had uploaded a child pornography file on June 11, 2019.

A second cyber tip was received by HSI on July 1, 2020, indicating that a Snapchat user, also later identified as Hansen, had uploaded child pornography. On August 17, 2020, HSI executed a search warrant at Hansen’s residence and seized his smartphone and smartwatch.

During an interview, Hansen admitted to viewing child pornography and stated that it would be found on his cell phone. A review of the phone revealed approximately 307 image files of child pornography and text messages in which Hansen exchanged child pornography files with others in quid pro quo type exchanges.

This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.

The investigation was led by Homeland Security Investigations. This case is a stark reminder of the dangers of child pornography and the importance of holding those who engage in this behavior accountable for their actions.
