A grim chapter in Cedar Rapids’ crime narrative closed as Dequan Autrell Jenkins, 27, was today sentenced to over eleven years for a brazen armed robbery.
Jenkins, a resident of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, pleaded guilty on February 26, 2025, to one count of interference with commerce by robbery, one count of possession of a firearm by a felon, and one count of using and carrying a firearm during and in relation to, and possession of a firearm in furtherance of, a crime of violence.
The heist took place on June 24, 2024, when Jenkins met with an individual in the city to purchase fentanyl. During the drug deal, Jenkins produced a firearm, robbed the seller of the fentanyl and the seller’s backpack. Jenkins had been prohibited from possessing firearms due to prior felony convictions.
Jenkins was sentenced by United States District Court Chief Judge C.J. Williams in Cedar Rapids. He received 141 months’ imprisonment and is required to serve a five-year term of supervised release following his prison term. There is no parole in the federal system. Jenkins remains in custody pending transport to a federal prison.
This sentence comes as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a comprehensive program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Adam J. Vander Stoep, with the investigation led by the Cedar Rapids Safe Streets Task Force, a collaborative effort between the FBI, the Cedar Rapids Police Department, and the Marion Police Department.
