Cedar Rapids resident Jason Henry Tetter II has been sentenced to more than a year in federal prison for his role in straw purchasing firearms. The 25-year-old was caught red-handed when he attempted to buy two guns on behalf of Daquavion Williams, who was not legally old enough due to his age.
Tetter’s scheme unraveled after one of the firearms was used in a shooting incident that left a victim with a gunshot wound. Tetter pleaded guilty on March 21, 2025, to making a false statement during the attempted purchase of the firearm. His punishment, handed down by United States District Court Chief Judge C.J. Williams in Cedar Rapids, includes an 18-month prison term followed by a three-year supervised release period.
The investigation into Tetter’s activities was a collaborative effort between multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), Marion Police Department, and Waterloo Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Kyndra Lundquist handled the prosecution.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence in neighborhoods across America. The DOJ USAO has been actively involved in strengthening PSN since 2021, focusing on fostering trust, supporting community-based organizations, setting strategic enforcement priorities, and measuring results.
Tetter is required to surrender to the Bureau of Prisons at a date yet to be determined. His bond was previously set, and he awaits his fate. The court file for this case can be accessed through https://ecf.iand.uscourts.gov/cgi-bin/login.pl, with the case number 24-CR-0103.
