Chad Christopher Langgle, Possession of Child Pornography, Maryland 2024

In a disturbing turn of events, Chad Christopher Langgle, a 30-year-old Hagerstown resident, has pleaded guilty to possessing child pornography. The guilty plea was announced by U.S. Attorney Erek L. Barron and Special Agent in Charge Michael S. McCarthy of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI).

According to court documents, Langgle emailed more than 50 videos containing child pornography in December 2022. The disturbing content was not limited to his email account, as he also possessed images of child pornography on his cell phone and had additional videos stored in his email account. These heinous acts have left the community in shock and raised concerns about the prevalence of child exploitation in our society.

Langgle’s guilty plea comes as a result of a thorough investigation by HSI, the Maryland State Police, and the United States Marshals Service. The collaboration between these agencies is a testament to their commitment to combating child exploitation and bringing perpetrators to justice.

Langgle’s history of violent crimes against minors is alarming. He was previously convicted of sex abuse of a minor and second-degree assault on a minor in the Circuit Court for Calvert County, Maryland. Additionally, he was previously convicted of second-degree sex offense in the Circuit Court for St. Mary’s County, Maryland.

The case against Langgle is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. This program marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who sexually exploit children, and to identify and rescue victims.

At sentencing, Langgle faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in prison and a maximum of 20 years in prison followed by up to lifetime of supervised release. U.S. District Judge Julie R. Rubin has scheduled sentencing for October 10, 2024 at 10 a.m.

The Maryland U.S. Attorney’s Office commended HSI, the Maryland State Police, and the United States Marshals Service for their work in the investigation. U.S. Attorney Barron thanked Assistant U.S. Attorney Reema Sood, who is prosecuting the case.
