Chanty Reynoso Vasquez, Fentanyl Trafficking, Massachusetts 2023

BOSTON – A brazen fentanyl operation in Springfield has led to the downfall of a New York man, who pleaded guilty to drug trafficking charges involving the deadly synthetic opioid.

Chanty Reynoso Vasquez, 28, of Bronx, N.Y., pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute 400 grams or more of fentanyl. U.S. District Judge Mark G. Mastroianni scheduled sentencing for Nov. 20, 2023.

Reynoso Vasquez was indicted by a grand jury in May 2022, and on March 30, 2022, in Springfield, he possessed 400 grams or more fentanyl intended for distribution.

The charge of possession with intent to distribute 400 grams or more of fentanyl provides for a sentence of up to life in prison, up to six years of supervised release and a fine of $5 million.

Sentences are imposed by a federal district court judge based upon the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and statutes which govern the determination of a sentence in a criminal case.

Acting United States Attorney Joshua S. Levy; Brian D. Boyle, Special Agent in Charge of the Drug Enforcement Administration in New England; and Springfield Police Commissioner Cheryl Clapprood made the announcement today.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Todd E. Newhouse of Levy’s Springfield Branch Office is prosecuting the case.

According to the indictment, Reynoso Vasquez’s fentanyl trafficking operation posed a significant threat to public safety in Springfield.

The guilty plea brings to justice a defendant who distributed large quantities of fentanyl in the city, putting countless lives at risk.
