Charg Hebb, Involuntary Manslaughter, South Dakota 2013

Charg Hebb, a 19-year-old from Lantry, South Dakota, has been indicted on a federal charge of Involuntary Manslaughter in connection with a fatal car crash that occurred on October 12, 2012, on County Road 50 in Ziebach County.

The indictment was returned by a federal grand jury on February 13, 2013, and Hebb appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Mark A. Moreno on February 25, 2013, where he pled not guilty to the indictment.

The maximum penalty upon conviction is not more than 8 years in custody, a $250,000 fine, or both; 3 years of supervised release; and a $100 special assessment. Restitution may also be ordered.

The investigation into the crash, which resulted in the death of a young man riding in Hebb’s vehicle, is being conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Division, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Mikal Hanson handling the prosecution.

Hebb was released on bond pending trial, with a trial date yet to be set. The charge of Involuntary Manslaughter is a serious accusation, and Hebb is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
