CHARITY SHAM: Floyd L. Middleton, 47, of Washington, D.C., a former administrative hand at ‘Charity A,’ was sentenced to 15 months behind bars for swindling over $140,000.
The U.S. Attorney Channing D. Phillips and FBI Assistant Director Paul M. Abbate revealed the news, with Middleton facing charges of interstate transportation of stolen property following his guilty plea in July 2016.
His scheme spanned six years from February 2009 to October 2014. He falsified invoices to his own ‘property management’ firm and pocketed cash for personal expenses under false pretenses.
The court document refers to the religious charity as ‘Charity A,’ a name that remains shrouded in secrecy. Middleton will pay back $142,484 and face three years of supervised release upon his prison term.
U.S. Attorney Phillips and Assistant Director Abbate praised the FBI’s Washington Field Office investigation, the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Paralegal Specialist Angela Lawrence, Assistant U.S. Attorney Kendra D. Briggs, and former Assistant U.S. Attorney Muyiwa Bamiduro for their roles in the prosecution.
