Charlene Nicole Simmons, Methamphetamine Distribution, California 2021

LOS ANGELES – A Riverside woman, Charlene Nicole Simmons, 41, has been sentenced to 132 months in federal prison for her role in distributing over 1.5 pounds of methamphetamine.

According to court documents, Simmons pleaded guilty in October 2021 to one count of distribution of methamphetamine. Her lengthy criminal history, including a prior drug trafficking conviction for selling methamphetamine, was taken into consideration during sentencing.

On May 14, 2018, Simmons was pulled over by law enforcement in Riverside County while driving a car with a minor present. A search of the vehicle revealed 113 grams (0.25 pounds) of methamphetamine. In March 2019, Simmons sold 6.14 grams of methamphetamine to a buyer for $650 and later that day, she sold the same buyer 450.42 grams (nearly one pound) of methamphetamine for $1,460.

In May 2019, Simmons was pulled over by law enforcement again in Riverside County with two minor girls in her car. A search of the vehicle revealed 132.87 grams (0.3 pounds) of methamphetamine in a backpack.

Simmons possessed a total of 702.53 grams (1.6 pounds) of methamphetamine. Prosecutors argued that Simmons brought minor girls with her during the times she possessed with intent to distribute methamphetamine and at least once directed one of the minors to conceal her crime.

Simmons’ prior convictions include nine felony convictions and five misdemeanor convictions between 1999 and 2011. She also had a felony drug trafficking conviction for selling methamphetamine. Simmons was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Eli A. Alcaraz of the Riverside Branch Office.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Riverside Police Department, and the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office investigated this matter. Simmons’ sentence is a result of her lengthy criminal history and the presence of minors during her crimes.
