Randy Patrie, Felon in Possession of Stolen Firearms, Charles City …

Charles City, IA – A grim tale of gun theft and recidivism unfolds as 40-year-old Randy Patrie faces charges for being a felon in possession of firearms stolen from Gilbert’s Sale Yard in Floyd County. The search leading to this stunning revelation came during an investigation into a July 4, 2013, burglary in Charles City.

Patrie, with a history of felony convictions including burglary and drug offenses, was found with over 20 firearms during a police raid on his residence. These weapons had been pilfered from Gilbert’s Sale Yard, which fell victim to a burglary on May 2, 2013. Law enforcement officials have alleged that Patrie not only stole the guns but also knew he was prohibited from owning them as a convicted felon.

The Complaint filed in United States District Court in Cedar Rapids names Patrie’s previous felony convictions, including Attempted Burglary and Delivery of Methamphetamine. If found guilty, Patrie could face a decade behind bars, a quarter-million-dollar fine, and supervised release.

Patrie appeared in federal court today, with a detention hearing scheduled for July 14, 2013. As with all criminal cases, the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

The case against Patrie is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney C.J. Williams and investigated by multiple agencies, including the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, and local law enforcement.
