A man has been sentenced to 18 months in prison for failing to register as a sex offender in Nebraska. Charles M. Perkins, Jr., 50, was handed down the sentence by Senior United States District Judge Joseph.
Perkins, a transient, has a history of sex crimes. He was originally convicted of first degree rape in Ohio in 1988. In 2006, he was convicted in Ohio of failure to register as a sex offender.
In November 2014, Perkins arrived in Nebraska and began living at the Sienna Francis House in Omaha. However, he failed to register as a sex offender with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.
The case was investigated by the United States Marshal’s Office. Perkins was found guilty of failure to register as a sex offender, and his 18-month prison sentence will be followed by five years of supervised release.
The failure to register as a sex offender is a serious crime that poses a risk to public safety. Perkins’ actions demonstrate a blatant disregard for the law and the safety of his community.
Perkins’ sentence serves as a reminder that those who fail to register as sex offenders will be held accountable for their actions. The U.S. Attorney’s Office will continue to work tirelessly to protect the people of Nebraska from those who would seek to harm them.
