Perkins Jailed for Failing to Register as Sex Offender
In a move aimed at keeping the community safe, 50-year-old Charles M. Perkins, Jr. was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment, to be followed by five years of supervised release, for his conviction of failure to register as a sex offender.
The sentence was handed down by Senior United States District Judge Joseph in a federal court in Nebraska. Perkins, a transient, had originally been convicted of first-degree rape in Ohio in 1988 and had also been convicted in Ohio of failure to register as a sex offender in 2006.
Perkins moved to Nebraska in November 2014 and began living at the Sienna Francis House in Omaha, but failed to register as a sex offender with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, as required by law.
The case was investigated by the United States Marshal’s Office, which worked to ensure that Perkins was brought to justice for his failure to comply with the registration requirements.
The sex offender registration requirements are in place to protect the public and to ensure that individuals who have committed serious crimes are held accountable for their actions.
Perkins’s failure to register as a sex offender has sent a clear message to the community that such actions will not be tolerated and that the consequences of non-compliance will be severe.
As a convicted sex offender, Perkins will have to adhere to strict guidelines during his supervised release, including regular check-ins with his probation officer and strict limitations on his movements and interactions.
