A federal court in Omaha has sentenced a man to 33 months in prison for failing to register as a sex offender.
Timothy Kirsch, 31, was convicted in Page County, Iowa in 2002 of Lascivious Acts with a Child, and later convicted in Louisiana for failing to register as a sex offender.
Kirsch reported to Iowa authorities that he would be living in Nebraska, but he resided at two separate residences in Omaha without registering either residence with the Nebraska Sex Offender Registry.
The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in May 2006.
Kirsch’s sentence includes a 33 month term of imprisonment, followed by a 10 year term of supervised release after his release from prison.
There is no parole in the federal system.
Kirsch’s crimes have far-reaching consequences, and his sentence serves as a reminder of the importance of registering as a sex offender.
The case against Kirsch is a prime example of the efforts made by law enforcement to hold individuals accountable for failing to register as a sex offender.
