Pensacola Man Sentenced to 5 Years in Federal Prison for Cyberstalking and Child Exploitation

A 29-year-old man from Pensacola, Florida, has been sentenced to 5 years in federal prison for cyberstalking and sending obscene materials to minor females.

Charles M. Schmaltz was sentenced on an unspecified date in 2024 by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Florida. He was found guilty of cyberstalking and sending obscene materials to minor females between 2022 and 2024.

Court documents show that Schmaltz used multiple social media accounts to contact the minor females, who ranged in age from 9 to 15 years old. Despite repeated requests from the minor females and their parents to stop communicating with them, Schmaltz continued to send them sexually explicit content.

The investigation into Schmaltz’s activities was a joint effort between the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office, the Dale County Sheriff’s Office, and the Dothan Police Department in South Alabama.

Upon his release from prison, Schmaltz will be supervised by a U.S. Probation Officer for 5 years and will be required to participate in sexual offender treatment. He also faces further state charges in Alabama.

This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
