Charles Rowe, Drug & Gun Trafficking, Pensacola FL, 2022

PENSACOLA, FL – Charles Edward Rowe, 40, of Pensacola, Florida, will spend the next three decades behind bars after a federal judge handed down a 30-year sentence for a cocktail of drug and gun charges. Rowe was convicted of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, cocaine, and marijuana, along with possessing firearms while engaged in drug trafficking, and being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm. The sentence signals a harsh crackdown on repeat offenders flooding the streets with poison.

The bust went down July 27, 2021, when the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office Gun Crimes Unit, working alongside the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), raided a Pensacola hotel room. Inside, they found Rowe surrounded by enough narcotics to supply a small army – over two kilograms of methamphetamine pills and crystal, plus significant amounts of cocaine and marijuana. He wasn’t unarmed either; police seized a loaded Smith & Wesson 9mm pistol and a Hi-Point .40 caliber pistol. The scene painted a clear picture of a man actively running a dangerous operation.

U.S. Attorney Jason R. Coody didn’t mince words when announcing the sentence. “Those who repeatedly commit serious crimes are deserving of significant prison sentences,” he stated. “This career criminal has demonstrated his unwillingness to abide by the law, committing repeated drug crimes.” Coody emphasized the collaborative effort of law enforcement agencies in bringing Rowe to justice and removing him from the community. This wasn’t Rowe’s first rodeo; he was already on state probation for Grand Theft, Felony Battery, and the particularly disturbing charge of Domestic Battery by Strangulation when the feds caught up with him.

Assistant United States Attorney Amanda Gordon successfully prosecuted the case, highlighting the importance of coordinated investigations between local, state, and federal agencies. The operation falls under the umbrella of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a Department of Justice program aiming to reduce violent crime and gun violence nationwide. The initiative focuses on fostering trust within communities, supporting local organizations, and strategically targeting enforcement efforts.

While celebrating the conviction, authorities are also urging residents of the Northern District of Florida to take simple precautions. The U.S. Attorney’s Office is actively promoting a message: lock your car doors. Burglaries from unlocked vehicles are a major source of firearms for criminals in the region, and a small act of prevention could significantly reduce the flow of weapons to the streets.

Rowe’s 30-year sentence serves as a stark warning to others involved in the drug trade. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Florida, one of 94 nationwide, remains committed to pursuing justice and protecting communities from violent criminals. Public court documents related to the case are available on the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Florida website, and further information about the office can be found at http://www.justice.gov/usao/fln/index.html.
