Convicted: Jonathan Jefferson Ferris
A federal jury in Waco, Texas, has convicted 52-year-old Jonathan Jefferson Ferris on two counts of impersonating a federal agent. The conviction follows a lengthy investigation and trial.
According to evidence presented during the trial, Ferris would enter a pharmacy in Temple, Texas, in July and August 2019, looking to fill an out-of-state prescription for Fentanyl patches. Ferris identified himself as an out-of-town FBI agent on temporary assignment and wore a lanyard with a fake FBI identification card attached.
Ferris used fraudulent documentation purportedly from the FBI to support his request for filling the Fentanyl prescriptions. The investigation revealed that Ferris committed this crime on multiple occasions.
The U.S. Attorney Ashley C. Hoff and Special Agent in Charge Christopher Combs of the FBI’s San Antonio Division made the announcement.
Ferris faces up to three years in federal prison. Sentencing is scheduled for September 29, 2021, before U.S. District Judge Alan Albright.
The FBI conducted this investigation together with investigators from DEA Diversion and the Cedar Park Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Mark Frazier is prosecuting this case.
This case highlights the importance of vigilance in protecting against impersonation crimes. The public is urged to remain cautious when interacting with individuals who claim to be law enforcement officials.
