Corpus Christi – A 40-year-old Texan has confessed to receiving child pornography, a crime that lands him on the fast track to federal prison, according to U.S. Attorney Ryan K. Patrick.
In an investigation led by the FBI and Victoria Police Department, authorities pinpointed Paul Thomas Rosales after linking his IP address to explicit materials on a peer-to-peer network. They soon descended upon his Victoria residence, where they conducted a search that culminated in the seizure of multiple digital devices.
Forensic examination exposed approximately 200 images depicting children engaged in sexually explicit conduct, with some involving minors under the age of five. Today, Rosales admitted to downloading these pornographic images.
Sentencing is scheduled for December 11 before U.S. District Judge David S. Morales. If convicted, the Victoria man faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in federal prison and a fine that could soar up to $250,000. Until his hearing date, Rosales remains on bond.
The investigation was part of Project Safe Childhood (PSC), an initiative launched by the Department of Justice (DOJ) in May 2006 to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. Assistant U.S. Attorney Reid Manning is leading the prosecution, which was conducted alongside the Houston Metro Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
