Raleigh County Man Sentenced to Prison for Role in Destruction of Energy Facility
A Raleigh County man was sentenced to two years and six months in prison for aiding and abetting the destruction of an energy facility in West Virginia.
CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Charles Stanley, 51, of Shady Spring, was sentenced today by Senior United States District Judge John T. Copenhaver, Jr. for his role in the destruction of an energy facility in Raleigh County.
According to court documents and statements made in court, Stanley admitted to working with others to steal multiple pieces of specialized mining equipment from the energy facility in 2019. These thefts forced the facility to shut down for a period of two weeks as the facility was unable to function without the stolen pieces of equipment.
The thefts also resulted in hundreds of thousands of dollars of damage to the facility. Stanley’s actions led to a significant disruption of the facility’s operations, causing financial losses to the business.
United States Attorney Will Thompson made the announcement of Stanley’s sentencing. The West Virginia State Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) also played a key role in investigating the case.
Assistant United States Attorney Kathleen Robeson prosecuted the case. Stanley will serve two years and six months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release.
