Keishaun Leroy Anderson, Gas Station Robberies, North Carolina 2020

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Keishaun Leroy Anderson, 20, and Kevin Matias Lopez, 29, have been sentenced for a relentless spree of gas station robberies in Charlotte, North Carolina.

In a chilling display of violence, the duo attempted to rob several gas stations within an hour’s span on November 1, 2020. U.S. Attorney Dena J. King, along with FBI and CMPD officials, announced the sentences today.

Anderson received 111 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release for Hobbs Act robbery and possession and brandishing of a firearm. Lopez was sentenced to 63 months in prison plus three years of supervision for conspiracy to commit Hobbs Act robbery and actual robbery.

The night began with Anderson attempting to rob a 7-Eleven on Nations Ford Road. The clerk, alerting authorities, managed to secure the store before the pair fled. Another attempt at a Circle K on South Tryon Street was thwarted when a clerk locked the doors securely. Anderson and Lopez were next seen at a Circle K on South Tryon Street where they made off with cash.

They continued their spree to a 7-Eleven on Steele Creek Road, where Anderson pulled a shotgun on the clerk before escaping with money, cigarettes, and cigars. The police anticipated their next move and arrested them at an apartment complex soon after.

Judge Robert J. Conrad Jr. noted the harrowing nature of the crimes, emphasizing the defendants’ dangerous actions. Currently in federal custody, Anderson and Lopez are awaiting transfer to a federal Bureau of Prisons facility.
