Child Pornography Charges Filed Against Cuyahoga Falls Man
A disturbing case of child pornography has shaken the quiet town of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. Steven J. Woods, a 49-year-old resident, has been charged with receiving, distributing, and possessing visual depictions of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct.
The indictment, filed by United States Attorney Steven M. Dettelbach, alleges that from February 28, 2013, to April 4, 2013, Woods knowingly received and distributed numerous computer files containing visual depictions of real minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct.
On April 5, 2013, a search of Woods’ external hard drive uncovered images of child pornography. The shocking discovery has left authorities and residents alike stunned.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Carol M. Skutnik. The Cleveland Office of the United States Secret Service and the Cuyahoga Falls Police Department collaborated on the investigation.
An indictment is merely an accusation, and Woods is entitled to a fair trial in which the government must prove his guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
The actual sentence will be determined by the Court after considering the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, which take into account various factors unique to each case, including the defendant’s prior criminal record, role in the offense, and the characteristics of the violation.
The statutory maximum sentence will not be exceeded, and in most cases, it will be less than the maximum. This disturbing case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of vigilance in protecting our children from those who would harm them.
