Cicero Man Pleads Guilty to Child Pornography Charges
Ryan Maher, a 35-year-old resident of Cicero, New York, has pleaded guilty to receiving and possessing child pornography.
According to court documents, Maher admitted to receiving child pornography in 2019 and 2020 using a peer-to-peer file sharing service on the internet. He also admitted to possessing approximately 4,000 child pornography files on a thumb drive on November 17, 2020.
This is not Maher’s first run-in with the law. He has a prior New York State conviction for Sexual Abuse in the Second Degree.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael D. Gadarian is leading the prosecution of this case, which was investigated by the FBI’s Syracuse Mid-State Child Exploitation Task Force.
The task force is comprised of FBI Special Agents and Investigators from the New York State Police, Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI), and Computer Crimes Unit (CCU).
As part of his guilty plea, Maher faces a minimum of 15 years and up to 40 years in prison for receiving child pornography and a minimum of 10 years and up to 20 years in prison for possessing child pornography. He will also be required to serve a term of supervised release of between five years and life after his term of incarceration and will be required to register as a sex offender.
This case is being prosecuted as part of Project Safe Childhood, a program launched in 2006 by the U.S. Attorney’s offices and the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section (CEOS). The program aims to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the internet.
