Daniel David Egli, Child Pornography Possession, Utah 2024

From the gritty streets of Salt Lake City, a heavy-handed sentence echoes through the courts. Daniel David Egli, 51, has been handed down over 19 years’ imprisonment for his latest child exploitation offense.

The federal jury convicted Egli in October 2024 for possession of child pornography. The seasoned sex offender was also sentenced to serve an additional two-year term after violating terms of supervised release in a separate case, which included unauthorized access to electronic devices. These violations led to the discovery of nearly 500 images of child sexual abuse material.

Egli’s criminal history is a scarred tapestry of exploitation crimes over two decades. His latest transgression came during his federal supervision term in spring 2021 when authorities found him with unauthorized gadgets, setting off an investigation that would land him behind bars.

Senior U.S. District Court Judge Tena Campbell imposed a lifetime term of supervised release on Egli following his sentence, underscoring the severity of his crimes. “Egli is a repeat offender of child exploitation,” said Acting U.S. Attorney Felice John Viti. “Our community and its children are safer with him behind bars.”

The FBI Salt Lake City Field Office led the investigation into Egli’s actions, while the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Utah prosecuted the case. This conviction is part of Project Safe Childhood, a Justice Department initiative to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse.
