OXFORD, MS – The grimy streets of Oxford were left shaking with the news that Lonnie Everill, a man who once vowed to protect children as a federal probation officer, has been sentenced to ten years in prison for child exploitation. The former lawman’s descent from protector to predator is a chilling tale of betrayal.
Everill, 46, from Water Valley, Mississippi, pleaded guilty on January 14, 2025, to one count of receiving child pornography. His insatiable appetite for child sexual abuse material came to light when he engaged in perverted chats with another social media user about their shared interest in minors.
Court documents reveal that over four months, Everill exchanged and possessed a harrowing cache of images and videos depicting the sexual abuse of children. The court held him accountable for over 1,400 images, including some of very young children being raped, underscoring the gravity of his crimes.
Everill’s career as a probation officer had focused on rehabilitating sexual offenders, a role that should have been a beacon of hope for victims, but instead, it became a cloak for his sinister activities. His employment in Utah, California, South Carolina, and Mississippi only added to the depth of his betrayal.
U.S. District Judge Dan Jordan meted out justice, sentencing Everill to 120 months in federal prison. The court also ordered him to pay $3,000 in restitution to the victims and imposed a $10,000 assessment. Restrictions on his access to children and the internet were further enforced, along with mandatory sex offender registration.
U.S. Attorney Clay Joyner called Everill’s actions ‘staggering,’ emphasizing that his criminal conduct not only affected victims but also undermined public trust in federal probation officers across the nation. Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Jackson Field Office Robert Eikhoff echoed these sentiments, noting the profound damage done to community trust when a law enforcement officer commits such heinous acts.
This case was investigated by the FBI and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Parker S. King as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. For more information about Project Safe Childhood, visit www.projectsafechildhood.gov.
