FLORIDA MAN SENTENCED FOR HOAX WHITE POWDER LETTER TO NEW YORK STATE ATTORNEY GENERAL’S OFFICE
In a stunning turn of events, Henry Garcia, 63, of Vero Beach, Florida, has been indicted for mailing a letter containing a simulated white powder to the New York State Attorney General’s Office in Albany. The fraudulent substance was designed to mimic a biological weapon, with intentions to terrorize recipient Letitia James.
United States Attorney John A. Sarcone III and FBI Special Agent in Charge Craig L. Tremaroli jointly announced the charges against Garcia. Despite the powder being harmless, the intent was clear: to intimidate public officials and disrupt their duties. Sarcone emphasized the severity of the crime, vowing full prosecution without plea deals.
FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force is leading the investigation with a network of agencies including the New York State Police and Postal Inspection Service. Garcia faced up to 5 years in prison, $250,000 fine, and supervised release for his actions.
Garcia appeared in Fort Pierce, Florida, for an initial hearing and was detained ahead of a detention hearing set for June 30, 2025.
