Dustin Davis Haynes, Child Pornography Transportation, North Carolina 2020

WINSTON-SALEM, NC – Dustin Davis Haynes, a 34-year-old Lexington resident, was handed down a severe sentence today for his role in the transportation of child pornography. United States Attorney Matthew G.T. Martin announced that Haynes faced 65 months behind bars followed by a decade-long supervised release.

Haynes’ guilty plea on March 2, 2020, marked the culmination of an extensive operation led by the Boone Police Department detective who infiltrated a clandestine mobile messenger application group dedicated to child exploitation. This groundbreaking investigation resulted in the rescue of eight children and the arrest of 23 offenders across the globe.

The detective, posing as a 14-year-old girl, managed to gain access to multiple similar groups after being accepted into one by an administrator. His meticulous work laid the groundwork for the execution of a search warrant at Haynes’ residence, leading to his arrest and subsequent conviction.

Over several months, law enforcement agencies including the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI), Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), and the Boone Police Department meticulously traced leads across the country and internationally. Their efforts resulted in rapid arrests, including one Ohio man caught on an oil rig with his 14-year-old daughter, a victim of a decade-long abuse.

“Protecting children is a high calling,” said U.S. Attorney Matt Martin. “The Boone Police Department, NC SBI, and the Department of Homeland Security are answering this call. The work of these investigators has changed victims’ lives and safeguarded others.”

Homeland Security Investigations Charlotte Special Agent in Charge Ronnie Martinez echoed the sentiment: “This case shows HSI’s commitment to disrupting child pornography trade and seeking justice for the criminals involved.”
