Brian C. Sargent, a 49-year-old man from Bowling Green, Ohio, has been caught in a child sex abuse scandal that spanned nearly seven years. Between November 2018 and August 2025, Sargent received and distributed files depicting the sexual abuse of children. The disturbing discovery was made when agents from the US Secret Service and Ohio State Highway Patrol conducted an investigation on a peer-to-peer platform, leading them to Sargent’s residence in August 2025.
A search warrant was executed, and agents seized Sargent’s personal laptop and cellphone, which contained almost 700 files of child sex abuse materials, including minors engaged in sex acts and bondage. The investigation revealed that Sargent had been employed with the Ohio Investigative Unit during the time of these offenses, enforcing laws regarding alcohol, tobacco, and SNAP benefits.
Sargent pleaded guilty to Receipt and Distribution of Child Pornography and faces a minimum of five and up to 20 years in prison. His sentencing is scheduled for July 22, and a federal district court judge will determine the sentence after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.
The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. The prosecution is led by Assistant United States Attorney Tracey Ballard Tangeman for the Northern District of Ohio.
