Matthew Eric Baumgardner, Online Child Abuse Material, Florida 2017

United States Attorney Gregory W. Kehoe dropped a重磅 charge against 49-year-old Matthew Eric Baumgardner of Jacksonville for allegedly accessing child sexual abuse material over the internet.

Baumgardner, a registered sex offender since his 2017 conviction on charges including possession of child pornography and traveling to meet a minor for unlawful purposes, now faces a potential 20 years behind bars if found guilty. He was nabbed by authorities on July 28, 2025, with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and the FBI leading the investigation.

The indictment, which formally charges Baumgardner under federal law, underscores the severity of his new allegations. If convicted, he could also be subject to a lifetime of supervised release.

Prosecutor D. Rodney Brown is handling the case, which is part of Project Safe Childhood, an initiative launched in 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse.

Project Safe Childhood has become a relentless force against such crimes, leveraging federal, state, and local resources to protect children from predators. Baumgardner’s arrest is another testament to the ongoing efforts to put these monsters behind bars.

Baumgardner is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
