MIAMI – In a chilling testament to the reach of international law enforcement, Stefan Andres Correa, 42, from Miami, has been sentenced to life in federal prison for his heinous acts as a child sex tourist. Correa’s guilty plea came after an investigation that uncovered a sickening trail of sexual exploitation in Colombia.
Correa was apprehended at Miami International Airport while attempting to board a flight to Bogota, Colombia. Authorities discovered nine cell phones on him, each harboring over 100 videos depicting the offender engaging in sexual acts with minors aged between 11 and 17 years old. One of the phones also held a chilling exchange with a sex trafficker, detailing Correa’s willingness to pay $300,000 Colombian pesos for commercial sex with children as young as 10.
“The United States of America will always seek to protect children near and far,” declared U.S. Attorney Hayden P. O’Byrne for the Southern District of Florida. “This sentence is a clear message to predators: you will be found and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
Jose R. Figueroa, Acting Special Agent in Charge of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) in Miami, echoed the sentiment. “The life sentence for this predator brings some measure of justice to the brave survivors,” he said. “This investigation underscores the global nature of child sex trafficking and the importance of international cooperation.”
The investigation was a collaborative effort involving HSI Miami, HSI offices in Cleveland, Ohio, Bogota, Colombia, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), and the Narcotic and Dangerous Drug Section’s Office of the Judicial Attaché in Bogota, Colombia.
Correa’s sentence is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse launched by the Department of Justice.
