A federal judge has handed down a life sentence to Kendall Anagal, a 41-year-old man from Chinle, Arizona, for his role in a heinous child sex abuse case.
Anagal was found guilty of three counts of Aggravated Sexual Abuse and one count of Abusive Sexual Contact of a Child after a federal jury delivered its verdict on February 9, 2024.
The victim, who was between nine and 10 years old at the time of the abuse, suffered repeated and violent sexual assaults at the hands of Anagal. Miraculously, the victim reported the abuse when she was 17 years old, citing fear for her life as the reason for her delayed disclosure.
The investigation into Anagal’s crimes was led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), with Assistant U.S. Attorneys Tracy Van Buskirk and Sharon K. Sexton handling the prosecution on behalf of the U.S. Attorney’s Office, District of Arizona.
Anagal’s crimes are a stark reminder of the devastating impact that child sex abuse can have on its victims. The trauma caused by such abuse can last a lifetime, and it’s imperative that those responsible are held accountable for their actions.
As Anagal begins his life sentence, the community is left to grapple with the harsh reality of this crime. The U.S. Attorney’s Office, District of Arizona, is committed to protecting the victims of child sex abuse and ensuring that those responsible are brought to justice.
