Paducah, KY – The grimy streets of Christian County witnessed a federal sentence handed down today for Zachary Dean Evans, 28. Evans was sentenced to 33 months in federal prison followed by a 3-year term of supervised release for illegal firearm possession after having been previously convicted of multiple felony offenses.
U.S. Attorney Michael A. Bennett, Acting Special Agent in Charge Robert Maynard of the ATF Louisville Field Division, and Chief Clayton Summers of the Hopkinsville Police Department stood together to announce the sentence for Evans, who stands as a stark reminder of the consequences of violent crime.
Court documents reveal that on September 23, 2020, Evans, with a history of serious felony convictions, possessed a pistol. His previous offenses include fraudulent use of a credit card over $10,000, receiving stolen property exceeding $500, possession of a stolen firearm, second degree escape, first degree fleeing or evading police, theft by unlawful taking over $500, and second degree unlawful imprisonment.
This case was the culmination of a joint investigation between the ATF Paducah Satellite Office, the Hopkinsville Police Department, and the Christian County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney Leigh Ann Dycus prosecuted the case with unwavering determination.
Evans’ sentence serves as a somber testament to the relentless efforts of law enforcement in combating gun violence and protecting communities from those who would threaten public safety.
