Grimy Times has learned that Christian Vega-Camacho, a 29-year-old man from Guadalupe, Mexico, has been sentenced to six months in federal prison for unlawfully reentering the U.S. after being previously removed.
Crime Details
Vega-Camacho, a Mexican citizen, was found guilty of one count of illegal reentry, which is a federal offense. According to court documents, Vega-Camacho had previously been removed from the U.S. in 2018 but reentered the country without permission.
Arrest and Charges
Vega-Camacho was arrested in Decorah, Iowa, in April 2021, on suspicion of using fraudulent documents to work in the country. He was released from custody pending trial but fled from release in June 2021. His whereabouts remained unknown until he was arrested again in Postville, Iowa, in November 2025.
Sentence and Outcome
Vega-Camacho was sentenced by United States District Court Chief Judge C.J. Williams in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He was ordered to serve six months’ imprisonment and one year of supervised release after his release from prison. There is no parole in the federal system.
Investigation and Prosecution
The case was investigated by Immigrations and Customs Enforcement, Enforcement and Removal Operations, and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Anthony Morfitt. Vega-Camacho is currently being held in the United States Marshal’s custody until he can be transported to a federal prison.
