Christopher Brian Goodwin, Civil Rights Violation & Sexual Abuse, Kentucky 2023

A former correctional officer at FMC Lexington in Kentucky has been sentenced to 135 months in prison for depriving inmates of their civil rights and sexually abusing them.

Christopher Brian Goodwin, 46, was found guilty of deprivation of rights under color of law and three counts of sexual abuse of a ward.

The crimes occurred between April and September 2019, while Goodwin was employed as a correctional officer through the Bureau of Prisons at FMC Lexington.

According to his plea agreement, Goodwin sexually assaulted one inmate against her will, knowing there were no cameras in the area, and also admitted to unlawfully touching the breasts, buttocks, and groin area of three more victims on multiple occasions.

Goodwin pleaded guilty to the charges in March 2022 and must serve 85 percent of his prison sentence.

Upon his release from prison, he will be under the supervision of the U.S. Probation Office for five years and subject to sex offender registry laws of Kentucky.

The DOJ-Office of the Inspector General and FBI handled the investigation, with Assistant U.S. Attorneys Tashena A. Fannin and Kate K. Smith representing the United States in court.
