Christopher Eberlein, Child Pornography, New York 2021

ALBANY, NEW YORK — In a disturbing case of child exploitation, 54-year-old Christopher Eberlein of Albany County has pleaded guilty to multiple counts of transporting and possessing child pornography.

According to the FBI, Eberlein admitted to emailing hundreds of child pornography images and videos to himself from June 2008 through May 2019. He also confessed to possessing child pornography images and videos on three laptops and one thumb drive.

The guilty plea was made before United States District Judge Mae A. D’Agostino, who will determine Eberlein’s sentence on November 9, 2021. Under the terms of the plea agreement, Eberlein faces at least 5 years and up to 20 years in prison, as well as a term of supervised release of at least 5 years and up to life.

In addition to his prison sentence, Eberlein will be required to register as a sex offender.

The case was investigated by the FBI and its Child Exploitation Task Force, with assistance from the New York State Police, and is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Rachel Williams.

This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a program launched in May 2006 by the United States Attorney’s offices and the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section (CEOS). Project Safe Childhood aims to better locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.
