Hartford Man Arrested for Sex Trafficking a Minor, Faces Mandatory Minimum of 10 Years Imprisonment

A 24-year-old man from Hartford has been arrested on charges of sex trafficking a minor, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Connecticut.

CHRISTOPHER HAMLETT, also known as “Cadi” and “Cadillac Black,” was arrested today on a criminal complaint charging him with sex trafficking of a minor.

According to court documents, between August and November 2017, HAMLETT coerced a minor victim to engage in prostitution at Hartford area hotels. The victim stated in an interview with law enforcement that HAMLETT initially gave her a percentage of the money she earned through prostitution, but later took all of her money, threatening her by saying “It’s business. I have things that cost money. Just do as you’re told or I can make you disappear. No one is going to look for you.”

HAMLETT allegedly advertised the victim’s prostitution services on online websites, including Backpage.com. If convicted of the charge of sex trafficking of a minor, HAMLETT faces a mandatory minimum term of imprisonment of 10 years and a maximum term of imprisonment.

U.S. Attorney Durham stressed that a complaint is only a charge and is not evidence of guilt. Charges are only allegations and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

This matter is being investigated by the Hartford Police Department, through the Connecticut Human Trafficking Task Force, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The case is being prosecuted by AUSAs Sarala V. Nagala and Nancy V. Gifford.

HAMLETT appeared today before U.S. Magistrate Judge Donna F. Martinez in Hartford and is detained pending a detention hearing that is scheduled for February 15.
