WHEELING, WEST VIRGINIA – Heroin trafficking has ravaged communities across the country, and today, one of its key players has been brought to justice. Christopher T. Gyorko, a 31-year-old man from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, has been convicted of heroin trafficking in federal court.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Gyorko was the leader of a heroin trafficking operation that transported the deadly drug across state lines from Pittsburgh into Ohio and Marshall Counties in West Virginia. His operation also had a presence in Ohio, where the heroin was redistributed and sold.
Gyorko was one of six individuals charged in an 18-count federal indictment in June 2015. He pled guilty to one count of Conspiracy to Possess with Intent to Distribute and to Distribute Heroin. He faces up to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $1,000,000.
The investigation into Gyorko’s operation was a collaborative effort between the Marshall County Drug and Violent Crime Task Force and the Drug Enforcement Administration. The task force is a HIDTA-funded initiative.
Gyorko’s conviction is a significant blow to the heroin trafficking ring. His operation has been dismantled, and those responsible will face justice. The community can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that one of the key players in this deadly trade has been brought to account.
